Facebook pranks

June 14, 2009

They predicted that allowing vanity URLs on Facebook would give rise to cybersquatting. They foresaw it would spark a mad scramble, and pondered if Facebook’s server could hold up (it did, in the face of 500,000 URL-grabbers in 15 minutes). And we all knew wise hacks would try to grab the quirkiest URLs available (they did – see some daft, some funny and some really lame ones at http://mashable.com/2009/06/13/silliest-facebook-vanity-urls/).

But sweet-faced Christine Shipley of San Francisco trumped them all and now has a valuable piece of history to her name.

Doesn’t matter that it’s technically inaccurate.

Christine Shipley

They sure didn’t see that coming.

Is she bona fide or an elaborate hoax?

P/S: Someone who claims to be her apparently received 340 new friend requests overnight (now 341 if you include mine).
